Arnis Exam in the Philippines

Guro Jeff Estrada

About

Guro Jeff Estrada is Calgary's dedicated Filipino Martial Arts instructor, with over 13 years of experience teaching Arnis, Kali, and Eskrima. He founded Flow Martial Arts Academy in 2012 with a single goal: to make authentic FMA accessible to anyone willing to learn, regardless of prior experience.

Filipino Martial Arts Lineage:

GM Ernesto Presas Sr. > GM Oliver Garduce > Guro Jeff

Beyond lineage, Guro Jeff has reached high levels within the art — qualifying for the 2012 WEKAF World Championships and later earning advanced Kali Sports Training and 2nd Degree certification in the Philippines in 2018.

Teaching Philosophy

“Filipino Martial Arts is an integrated system — weapons, empty hands, all ranges. My job is to make that accessible to anyone who walks in the door, whether they’ve never trained a day in their life or they’re a black belt in something else.”

Every class at Flow Martial Arts Academy is structured around the same progression that defines Filipino Martial Arts: controlled weapons training first, building timing, distance awareness, and gross motor patterns that transfer naturally into empty-hand combat. Alongside technique, Guro Jeff emphasizes the character values at the heart of the art — humility, integrity, and perseverance.

Personal Training Clientele

Guro Jeff's expertise extends well beyond the dojo floor. His personal training background spans a diverse and demanding range of clients, each with distinct physical and tactical requirements:

  • Security professionals  —  tactical movement, situational awareness, and defensive skills for real-world threat environments

  • Actors & stunt performers  —  screen-safe weapon handling, choreography preparation, and combat-ready conditioning

  • A park ranger  —  practical self-defense and physical preparedness for remote, resource-limited situations

This breadth of experience reflects the versatility of Filipino Martial Arts as a practical system — and Guro Jeff's ability to adapt training to the specific demands of any professional context.

Cross-Training Background

Guro Jeff's FMA instruction is informed by training in complementary combat disciplines, allowing him to contextualize Filipino Martial Arts within a wider framework of practical self-defense:

  • Muay Thai  —  Toronto, Ontario

  • MMA / Shooto  —  Saitama, Japan

Other Credentials
  • Personal Training Specialist, Toronto

  • Red Cross CPR/AED Level C
